چکیده

One in four adults the US suffer from cartilage degeneration of Intervertebral Disc (DDD) or load bearing joints (DJD). Since is avascular, it has a limited regenerative capacity. Conventional non-surgical treatments provide brief symptomatic relief, have sided effects, and do not address defect itself. As such, new alternatives are needed. Perinatal birth tissue allografts novel frontier for bio-mechanical engineering research. The tissues interest include umbilical cord-derived Wharton’s Jelly (WJ). This study assessed WJ samples via ZEISS Supra 55VP FieldEmission Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) at 100 300 nm resolution scales. captured images pre post-processed structural matrices were analyzed against themselves peer-reviewed SEM articular cartilage, intervertebral disc muscle fascia. found to be comparable human fascia on qualitative quantitative level. first that we aware of, demonstrate collagen analogous structure joints, discs,

Transdifferentiation of Human Umbilical Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Dopaminergic Neurons in a Three-Dimensional Culture

Introduction: The induction of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HUC-MSCs) toward dopaminergic neurons is a major challenge in tissue engineering and experimental and clinical treatments of various neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson disease. This study aims to differentiate HUC-MSCs into dopaminergic neuron-like cells. Methods: Following the isolation and charac...

Image processing approaches to biological three-dimensional electron microscopy

Electron microscopy is a powerful technique for imaging complex biological macromolecules in order to further the understanding of their functions. When combined with sufficiently careful sample preparation procedures that preserve the native structure of the macromolecules and with sophisticated image processing procedures, electron microscopy can lead to very informative estimates of the thre...

Three-dimensional architecture of cardiomyocytes and connective tissue in human heart revealed by scanning electron microscopy.

Scanning electron microscopy is a useful modality to directly observe the 3-dimensional structures of cells at high resolution. Scanning electron microscopy enables visualization of the surface features of cardiomyocytes after removal of the surrounding connective tissue1 and the connective tissue skeleton after removal of the nonfibrous elements.2 In addition, backscattered electron emission w...

Atomic resolution three-dimensional electron diffraction microscopy.

We report the development of a novel form of diffraction-based 3D microscopy to overcome resolution barriers inherent in high-resolution electron microscopy and tomography. By combining coherent electron diffraction with the oversampling phasing method, we show that the 3D structure of a nanocrystal can be determined ab initio at a resolution of 1 A from 29 simulated noisy diffraction patterns....
